Last night, the boys and I were busy making new sensory boxes. They absolutely loved making them. We went for a walk to the forest after school and collected lots of nuts, pinecones, stones, leafs even a snail shell, without the snail of course. We made an Autumn Forest box out of it, there is a magnifying glass that goes with it so the kids can examine everything up close.
Then we made a construction site box for all the construction cars we have. I used, sand, wild rice, lentils and giant couscous as a base and we added some small stones from the forest too. Dexie wouldn't get off it which made oskar very angry :)
The third one was a hide and seek box. Again as a base i used, polenta, wild rice, beluga lentils, green lentils and some colourful sand. I then placed small objects like buttons, little wooden mushrooms, little flowers and pompom's in different sizes and colours. I gave the boys wooden tongs to pinch the objects out and place then in the bowl. Great exercise for their fine motor skills. As an extension to this they can use the bowl to sort the objects. I overheard oskar say "dexie this is nice right'? and dexie replied "yeah". So cute.
Last but not least, the magic water beads box. The sensation was quite unique for them and they wouldn't stop giggling while squeezing the beads through their little fingers.
Their room looks more like a classroom now but they are definitely enjoying it. I didn't have to play talking cars tonight and they had no interest in watching Peppa pig! Not that i even dared to ask. They were busy with the new boxes until 9pm! I was so happy to see them engaged in creative learning. Success!!
