Places to go in London with children!

As some of you may know i am training to become a Montessori nursery teacher, which by the way it is the best thing i've done in my life. Never before have i felt so happy and content!! So last week we started a new subject called "culture" and it focuses on teaching the child basic knowledge in the fields of biology, geography, history and science. Montessori, as per our module, introduced all the cultural material in the prepared environment as she believed the teacher's aims in education were to help the child develop his/her personality, help the child adapt in his/her environment and finally help the child become and independent, useful member of his/her society.

Our teacher is quite inspirational ;) and we started off with biology which is the science of living organisms. It is subdivided into zoology - the science of the animal kingdom and botany - the science of the plant kingdom.

We discussed different places of where children could be taken in order to explore different aspects of nature or indeed our society. Here are some ideas of where you could take your little ones in London and just a teeny bit further out. Oskar is still a bit too young to appreciate most of the places but anyone with children above 3 years old would certainly benefit.

Here are some ideas:

Museums:
Museum of childhood - www.vam.ac.uk/moc/your_visit/index.html
Geffrye museum - www.geffrye-museum.org.uk
V&A museum - www.vam.ac.uk
Natural History museum - www.nhm.ac.uk
Science museum - Great area for the under 5's in the basement - www.sciencemuseum.org.uk

Local shops such as:
Bakery, butchers, post office and sorting office, pet shops

Without forgetting the fire station and police station.

And when it comes to the outdoors we have of course:
The London zoo - www.zsl.org with a great inflatable butterfly tunnel!
Kew gardens in west london - www.kew.org/ksheets
The paradise wild life park which is off the M25 - www.pwpark.com
And let's not forget that children also love visiting farms!

Last but not least on my list is the tricycle theatre and little angel puppet theatre . Both are apparently very good.
